Individual Sizes Fit All – A Look at the Spit Sock Hood

When I was a new patrol officer, I didn’t know what to do when a suspect was doing what most would call excessive profanity. The only thing that I knew to do then, and still today, are to control the situation by talking to the suspect through his teeth. After I managed to get him to stop talking for a while, I then noticed that he was wearing a spit sock. So I removed the sock and asked him what he was doing; after he explained that he was just enjoying the sun.

When Detainees are transported into a holding cell in a timely fashion, Obeycers will make sure that detainees are transported to jail in an appropriate fashion Officers might use the spit sock hood again if the suspect is actively spitting at the arresting officers, or they have a reasonable suspicion that the suspect will spit at them. If the suspect continues to be belligerently hostile, and he is interfering with the arrest, it becomes increasingly difficult to contain the suspect until the booking officer has had a chance to review the detailed police report and speak with the suspect directly. By then the situation has escalated to where the suspect is obviously uncooperative, and the officer has no choice but to use the spit sock hood again.

Now I won’t say that the spit sock hood isn’t available in an individual-sized fashion, I won’t. But I will say that for one reason only, and that reason is that I don’t have one size fits all cops in this world. In other words, not all of my shirts are made in the same style, cut, and sewed. So I cannot personally vouch for an individual sized spit hood, as I don’t have one size fits all.
