How to Lock a Door With a Sock

When you need to lock a door with a key but do not have the proper key (usually a chain or screw-in key), learning how to lock a door with a sock is one alternative that you can try. It is similar to other methods in that you use something thin like a rubber sock to put the key into the lock. But if you want to learn how to lock a door with a sock, you need to get yourself a really good one. It should be thin and can go just over one inch thick so that it can hide through a normal sized door lock.

Find yourself some thick socks. There are plenty of them around at stores such as Walmart or drugstores. Lay a couple of them on the floor by the door you want to practice unlocking. Using a mirror, try to look for an outline of the shape of the door you need to practice trying to open. With a little practice, you will get the hang of this and be able to figure out how to lock a door with a sock in just a few moments.

Use the key you just took off the door knob to make your way into the house. It will be dark outside so bring along a flashlight. You want to make sure you do not trip on anything. Put your key in the side of the door closest to the front door so you won’t have to get down and unlock it from the other side.
