What Were the Fashion Trends in the 1950s?

Since the time period of the 1950’s Fashion is always in style. However, when it comes to men’s fashion, they tend to follow the current trend rather than the trend that was in fashion back then. Fashion changes so fast, that it is hard for people to keep up. In this article, I will discuss what were the popular fashion trends in the 1950s.

Fashion for men of that time was more influenced by the Hollywood movies and television shows, than from any kind of real fashion study or trend research. Most popular fashion designs at this time were inspired by famous designers of that time like Dietrich, Mario Testino and John Galliano. Many of the popular shapes for men at this time were the hourglass shape, the square and the figure six.

There was another major influence on men’s fashion and this was Thomas Edison’s “electric car”. This concept sparked an interest in cars among many men, and thus there was an enormous demand for vintage style saddle shoes. Men’s vintage automotive accessories included cap covers, hub caps, roll cages, leather jackets and denim tucked in trousers. With the popularity of the electric car and its revolutionary concept, men wanted to own one, even if they didn’t drive one!
