As one who has observed the fashion industry in Japan for many years, I am often asked what is the latest trend in kids’ fashion. In my opinion, there is no single trend that is ‘trending.’ Rather each season brings a number of new styles and designs to the market, which people continue to buy as they eagerly look forward to seeing their children wearing them. The fact is that fashion changes so quickly and rapidly that it can actually be a problem to keep track of what is currently in vogue and what will soon be in fashion.
What is trending fashion for kids in the USA? At this point we can certainly say that the fashion industry has definitely picked up on the ‘baby doll’ fashion for girls that was in full swing during the late sixties and the early seventies. These dolls represented a chic and sophisticated image for little girls at the time and were a huge success. However, the seventies also witnessed the onset of hip hop and rap styles and these styles have now become popular again. So, if you ask me what is the latest trend for kids in the USA today, I would say that there are several different styles that are currently in fashion.
For instance, it seems that there has been a new trend in Disney clothing lately and that includes characters such as Winnie the Pooh, Goofy and Cinderella. Another trend I have noticed recently is that children are now dressing up like their favorite television shows such as Star Trek, Dora the Explorer and Supergirl. Finally, there are also a number of fashion trends for kids that involve dressing up as their favorite movie characters such as Shrek, Harry Potter and Beauty and the Beast. So I guess that it would seem that one trend that is always in style is that of cute, unique clothing styles that the younger generation is dressed down in. Let’s just hope that this will last for several more years!
