The OC depicted above is Emma Boyd from the TV show Orange is the new black. She plays Rachel Berry a teacher’s aide at a prestigious California teaching school who falls in love with a student. The OC shows how the pressure of being a teacher’s aide can be overwhelming as she tries to juggle her personal life with her job and family life. Her storyline deals with the difficulties of dealing with her own sexuality while still taking care of her gay child. She also deals with the issue of race relations, fitting in with the predominantly white and black students at the school, and fitting in with her new blended family.

Profession and Race Emma is half Spanish and half African American, and was born in Southern California. In an interesting twist of fate, she met and fell in love with Sean Penn in the movie The Thin Red Line. Since they are both African American, their relationship carries with it the implications of being Black and Latino, but they manage to keep their relationship discreet. After Sean dies in the movie, Emma moves back to Ohio where her parents have relocated, and they begin to raise their daughter alone.

Height difference aside, Emma has managed to find a new love in Sean. Their relationship makes them both happy and has added meaning to their lives since their romance began. Their height difference didn’t stop them from living a full and successful life. Emma has found a great role model for women looking to be independent and take charge of their lives while finding happiness. As a result of her success in both her personal and professional life, she has become a beloved character on Orange is the new black, and we can only hope that more shows will continue to bring our favorite characters to even greater heights of success and happiness.
