What Have Done by Emma Smetana Album Review

Emma Smetana is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She is known for her high vocal talent and versatile performance in movies such as Mystic River, Swing Vote, etc. Her first album The Age of Reason was released in 1998, followed by The Fame and the National Endowment for the Arts the following year. The last album she released was The Age of Ambition, which was comprised of some duets with Glen Campbell. The most recent album is entitled What We Do. It was released in March of 2009 and features songs from both The Age of Reason and The Fame.

What Have Done follows the album with the beautiful song “Burning Bush”. This song is from The Fame and The National Endowment for the Arts and is sung by Smetana with a strong Irish accent. A song like this one certainly will not put anyone off from buying what Emma Smetana has to offer, but what exactly is this project about? In my opinion, what have done is another great sing-along album by Emma Smetana featuring original tunes written just for her.

Some other great songs included on What Have Done include “The Best Laid Plans”, “You Are Forever Blowing Bubbles”, “Give Me One Good Reason” and “I’m Just a messenger.” Personally, I am very much looking forward to what Emma Smetana will come up with next, maybe some new songs on either The Age of Reason or The Fame and National Endowment for the Arts, a CD that includes songs from each album. Smetana is also currently working on a duet album with Glen Campbell, due out in the spring of 2013. I can’t wait to hear what they do. I’ve heard some people created musical books from their own life experiences, so you might want to do some looking into that as well if you are interested in reading music of the past, present, and future.
