The popular choices for the clothing of the time were the thin cut, ankle length skirts, frilly skirts and the figure hugging style shirts that had to be freshly pressed every morning. It was an entirely different clothing world and these were among the 1929 fashion trends which have become a part of popular culture even today. Although clothing was more relaxed than previously, it was still essential to keep up with the latest fashion trends so that your clothing and accessories looked fashionable and fit with the times. There were also many work wear items like high-heeled shoes, dress loafers and high heel boots that made their appearance in clothing of this period.

In the early part of the 1930s there was a huge swing to casual and relaxed style of dressing with jeans and shirts being favoured more than the usual formal clothing. This was also the decade when the fashion for jewellery became increasingly popular with stars like King Edward VIII and Cleopatra sporting earrings on which they relied heavily. The popularity of cufflinks, brooches and pins grew with men as did the size of collars and the style of ties which were worn. As the years passed, the emphasis changed towards relaxed and wearable styles of clothing. Following World War 1, the rise in work related fatalities caused a rethink in many people’s thinking about fashion and soon designers started to incorporate military influences into their work which led to a focus on comfort and practicality of clothing.

Clothing designers also took advantage of the mass market for clothing by creating similar clothing lines for both men and women. Popular names in this era include tailored shirts, tailored suits, jackets, casual trousers, skirts and work boots. Shirts and tops were made in various colours and designs with a casual look still incorporated into their design. The biggest change that took place with the clothing industry was the introduction of synthetic fibres into clothing which meant that manufacturers could produce better quality clothing at a lower cost and this was one of the main factors that led to the creation of the mass consumer market that we see today.
