The year of the fashion for 1914 was a very exciting time for the fashion conscious women because they were introduced to new fashions, new colors and new trends. Some women made their clothing purchases in the hope of being able to wear them for a long time, possibly wearing them on Christmas Day or Hanukkah. While there were many new fashions which caught the fancy of those who experienced the fashion, there were also many old fashions that had been fashionable for a long time before the First World War began.

One of the most popular and fashionable items of clothing during this time period was a form of dress called a “salwar”. Wearing a salwar top, with matching pants or lehenga was quite common and it was easy to be fashionable both in winter and in the summer. Another important piece of clothing during this time period, which was worn by both males and females alike was the same. There were many different color combinations available as well as patterns for the area and it was easy to match a saree to a particular outfit or a particular color scheme, which was common among the Indian Royalty.

Color was also a big part of this fashion and a lot of bright, vibrant colors such as red, orange, yellow, blue and green were used in a great deal of clothing. Women often chose these bold color schemes as they were associated with passion and energy. Red was also a big fashion color and was seen on a variety of clothing items including saris and churidars. Pink and white were also considered to be good color schemes for early suffragist clothing and were worn by many women. Finally, suffragist clothing had a lot of green since this was still the color of the suffragettes’ movement.
