Maya Madere was born inihuego province, Lagos state, Nigeria. She is currently a citizen of Lagos and holds a BA degree in Education with distinction. Prior, to the date of this article Maya held a position as an assistant professor in Gender and Sexuality Studies at Kenyatta University, Nigeria. While there she achieved much success in her academic and professional career, which is evidenced by her numerous honors, awards and recognitions including the “Person of the Year” in 2021 from the University of Nairobi (UON), the “collection of academic reputation” from the University of Nairobi (UON), the “collection of outstanding contributions to the field” from the same university and the “professor of the year” from the same institution.
Maya has also established her own educational consultancy which offers personal development workshops and consultancy sessions on various subjects focusing on business and career building. She is also a member of the board of advisers for the Kenya Human Development Trust (AHDT). Maya is also active within various other social networking communities including the United Colors of Gold and Silver Clubs, Lions and Dragons, as well as Women in Government Network Africa. She is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking and in working with a positive mindset. These are she’s basic principles in life that she promotes through her consultancy and activities.
Maya currently works with a private investor that has an interest in women entrepreneurs and women owning small businesses. As part of their relationship she provides financial, strategic and mentoring support. Her primary role as partner therefore is to act as the private investor’s surrogate in sourcing the necessary skills, resources and expertise from international experts. She provides this funding along with coaching and advising on how best to implement these strategies and makes recommendations to the manager. She is also involved in providing general strategic leadership guidance to the manager and acting as his or her representative to negotiate with the stakeholders.
