USA Basketball Team – How Does Casey Lowry Measure Up?

Casey Lowry is an American professional basketball player with the Indiana Pacers. He was selected by the Orlando Magic with the number twelve pick in the draft of the year 1996. He played two seasons for the Detroit Pistons before being traded to the Boston Celtics where he has spent the last seven seasons. His name is synonymous with being a good all around player as an NBA professional and is a six time All Star. However, many do not realize just how good of a player Casey Lowry is and how much his on-court ability is rated compared to his off-court responsibilities.

Basketball players, like most athletes are judged by the quality of their outside shot. The reason why this is true of Casey is that he is an excellent shooter from three-point range, but his decision-making and overall assist rank poorly when compared to other big men in the NBA. As a result of his height disadvantage it is believed that Casey should not be in the same category as players such as Dwayne Wade or Lebron James as a potential partner in action long term in the NBA. The lack of a strong outside shot and poor decision-making stem from the fact that Casey is a very raw talent as a player. Although he has come a very long way in improving on these areas over the last year or so, there is still a decent amount of room for improvement is what a champion truly is made of.

At the end of the day, Casey is an average NBA player who has put in a lot of effort on his basketball resume. He is an extremely athletic player, but lacks polish and maturity compared to some of the better international players. He is still young and has a bright future, but as with any young athlete there is going to come a point in their career where they need to step out on their own and prove themselves. It appears that the timing for Casey is right now as he is still developing as a player and still has some rough edges to work off of. He has a very good chance of becoming a very good NBA player, but it will probably never happen on his watch as long as he continues to put on such a good show for Team USA.
