Cathryn Rose “Casey” Wilson is an American stand-up comedy actor, actress, and writer. She has appeared in a number of notable television shows such as Everybody Loves Raymond, American Housewives, Everybody Loves Raymond, The New Girl, Mom, Dad, and the short-lived but very popular New Moon. She also was a cast member of Roseanne, The Princess and the Frog, Mom, Dad, and Bridesmaids, among others. She has been married to Todd Wilson since 1993. Together they have three children. In her recent stand-up appearances, Casey has discussed her career and marriage, and has revealed that she still feels extremely close to her former partner.

On the topic of marriage, Casey says that it was important for her and Todd to share a close, loving relationship prior to their marriage. She explained that when she told Todd that she still loved him, he said, “I love you, but I’m not ready.” Casey responded by saying, “I still love you, but I am not ready.” This anecdote sheds light on how much pain can be caused by gender discrimination, as well as the discomfort caused by the constant reminder that your gender is being used in ways that are not congruent with your true biological and physical characteristics.

As someone who has often discussed the ways in which our culture keeps us divided when it comes to issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, or disability, I was thrilled that in this case, Casey Wilson showed her discomfort by speaking out about her height difference. Her honesty and vulnerability are greatly needed. Her humor and sharp observations have made Age of Aquarius by Cathryn Rose an insightful and entertaining read. Readers will truly get something out of the Age of Aquarius by reading this engaging story of a married woman who continues to be challenged by being defined by her birth gender.
