Deborah Kaufmann is a famous singer, writer and actress with over 40 years experience in the entertainment industry. Her resume is filled with credits such as appearances on Broadway, her numerous television roles and more. Now, after more than two decades of acting, Ms. Kaufmann has released her first novel, which is entitled “Old Temple”. This was released by publisher Drogue imprints. The novel is a coming of age story and follows the story of an Irish American family as they move to San Francisco in the early part of the 1900’s.

The novel starts out as Jackie and Ruth meet while taking a walk in the park. They share some interesting thoughts about nationalities and what makes America unique. The conversation leads to discussing the nationalities of Ireland and how the Irish helped build America and how the Irish emigrated to the country. After listening to this intriguing conversation the two proceed to visit Old Temple Church, a historic landmark that sits on the banks of the San Francisco Bay. During their visit they learn that the church was built over the Golden Gate Bridge that linking San Francisco to San Francisco.

Through the words of the narrator we learn how “Old Temple” is steeped in history as it is named so because of the connection that the locals had to the bridge. In addition to having an intriguing history “Old Temple” tells the story of how a very average American comes to terms with his nationality and how that helps shape his identity. This is a great coming of age story about an American who embraces his nationality. In summation “Old Temple” is an enjoyable read about an American who comes to terms with his own identity and nationality.
