On 7th August 1996 at the Colliseum in Genoa, Italy, Giulia Pagliaro became the first female European champion during a match that also featured wrestlers Rene Bonaparte, Angelina Von Ester, Anaemia and Kurt Brown. At the same event, Giulia became the first European champion to have been a non-wrestler. The following day she went on to defend her title against eventual world heavyweight champion Rene Bonaparte.
