Is Caroline Kreutzberger To National?

First, let me say that I have met Caroline Kreutzberger. Her husband was not, as far as I am aware. She is an accomplished writer, speaker and consultant, and her success has been matched only by her own diligence and hard work in following her passions. For that matter, I am sure that the man she married was no less. It was quite the opposite – a partnership of equal parts brilliance and robustness.

Second, I note that she is a national asset. That may seem like a bit of a stretch, given her status in the writing world, but I think that if anyone is looking for her career path, it is because she has an excellent talent for connecting with people who are genuinely interested in helping others achieve their potential, and so I do not see her as having a national identity. Her achievements and contributions are those that she is very good at doing, rather than a “movement” that somehow defines her. That is perhaps the most accurate way to assess a personality trait or career practice. And, even if her work does not necessarily reflect that personal brand, it is a part of her overall personality.

Finally, I will note that I have known and worked with a number of women over the years whose husbands have been significantly shorter than Ms. Kreutzberger. (A fact that I think deserves some elaboration.) We worked side by side at a prestigious firm during the late eighties, and we often discussed the ways in which our husbands bore little resemblance to our “tops,” despite our obvious physical similarities. We noted, correctly, that being tall usually implied a certain measure of nationality. In the end, however, each of us realized that our stature did not inhibit our sharing of ideas or, indeed, even our sharing of life itself.
