Born in Brooklyn, New York, Caroline Burckle is currently a nationality swimmer at the age of 28. While at a recent competition she became the first American women to win a medal at the International Swimming Championships. She is currently training for the worlds in Sydney in April. Before that she has qualified for the world in the 200m race. As a result of this career breakthrough it is expected that the once relatively unknown out of country athlete will receive a lot more press and have a lot more profile in the swimming world in the coming months and years.
The background for most of her life now she has been classified by many as an American rather than a British citizen due to her American nationality. When she was younger some people would mistakenly call her German but this name is incorrect as her real mother’s nationality was German and so was born in Germany. It was whilst growing up in the States though that she really started to identify as an American albeit subconsciously. Following a break up with a boyfriend she met David Klein who was from Austria and they had a son together whilst living in New York.
Career spans her entire adulthood up until the current day, which means that over the last decade Caroline has swum in the swimming pool representing not only the United States but also Canada and numerous European countries. Some of the early accomplishments included winning the breaststroke at the Miss World in 1996 which was against the then reigning champion Olga Smolka. It is interesting to note that at the time of the competition both these women were aged 32 and had just completed their careers. Her nationalities have been mentioned though not by her though nor by anyone else since then.
