Kate Rumson’s first marriage to Richard Rider ended rather tragically when Rider drowned in the swimming pool on a holiday in Miami. After the marriage, Kate decided to concentrate on her acting career and did not have any more luck finding work in the theater. In an effort to secure some work, she attended classes at the prestigious drama school known as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA). Her efforts did not pay off however, as she was unable to find a role in the theater while she was at the American Academy. This is probably due to her height difference, as actresses are often considered to be of a different stature than model or actress, which can be considered a disadvantage in the modeling and acting world.
