Giulia Marchetti specializes in the field of international migration, focusing on issues related to age, national identity, ethnicity and class. She has conducted research in many countries including Western Europe, Central Europe, Northern Africa, as well as the Mediterranean Basin. Giulia Marchetti gained her PhD from University College London specializing in International Migration while working for the ILO (International Labor Organization). After that she continued with her research work in different countries of the European Union until recently when she joined the Migration Institute as a researcher.

Giulia Marchetti has published extensively on issues related to European immigration policies, such as nationality, age and gender. She has also focused on the topic of heights. Height has been used for centuries to differentiate between people of the same physical stature. Heightism seems to be more widespread in Europe than in other parts of the world.

Giulia Marchetti lives in Milan with her Italian partner and three children. Her family has always been supportive of her decision to pursue an education, even though they were initially skeptical about it. This led her to take this path which eventually led her to a career as a researcher focusing on issues regarding age, nationality, ethnicity, labor markets and gender. Her articles have been featured in prominent journals worldwide such as Journal of Comparative Studies in Psychology.
