Sandra Piace, a famous Canadian show woman and TV personality was married to an American man for 14 years. At the age of 67, she finally announced that she wanted to make a personal declaration of her marital status with the American government in order to renew her citizenship and take back her American citizenship. Recently, Sandra Piace gave birth to her second child, a U.S. citizen, while still holding her dual citizenship American passport.
Piace had not disclosed her nationality or her age when she applied for US citizenship, but now she claims that she is a national of the United States, which is listed at issue in her application. Although she has renounced her citizenship of Canada, according to her own statements made on Canadian TV, the Canadian government denied her the opportunity to remain a citizen of Canada by law. So, now she’s just trying to figure out how to get her citizenship back without having to start from zero. What is her strategy?
It is most unfortunate that Canadian immigration officials arbitrarily decided to enforce their laws over the decisions reached by the Supreme Court of Canada or the provincial governments of Canada. It shows a lack of understanding of how the system works and it probably gives the illusion to some that they can pick and choose which laws they want to follow. Therefore, it’s very important to understand that, while Sandra Piace is a national of the United States, according to her own statements she is neither a Canadian citizen nor a Canadian citizen by choice. She simply took on an American citizenship in order to have a passport, so if and when she decides to return to Canada, she’ll be breaking the law.
