Isabela Borges is a Nationality that has become an international phenomenon. This is because of the achievements that she has made both in her career and outside it. As a performer, she has been nominated for Academy Awards and has also won many other awards and accolades for her work in both the theatre and in films. However, when it comes to her citizenship, one might wonder whether or not she is a citizen of the Dominican Republic or not; a question that would be answered “No”.

Isabela is actually a Puerto Rican national; that is how she acquired her nationality. However, what has happened to her nationality, is that her nationality was taken away by the Dominican government when she was 18 years old, when she became a permanent US resident through the Immigration and Adjustment Services (IRS). Because of this event, her status as a Puerto Rican could no longer be guaranteed; something that she had never needed to worry about before.

As an actor, there are several different combinations of employment contracts that an actor can be entitled to throughout his career. For example, an actor can be eligible for the Hispanic Actors Registry (HAR), which would entitle him/her to a tax identification number based on his/her occupation. As well, there are various occupational consuls that can work with the NIE to determine which roles they deem fit for certain individuals. In these situations, the actor’s citizenship is not an issue; instead, the issue is the employment contract that he or she is bound by. For example, if an individual has the choice to work anywhere in the world that he or she wishes to, but chooses to work within the boundaries of the Dominican Republic, this is not considered a problem, as long as that person is legally an American citizen.
