Meghan Shimek is a Canadian actress and stand up comedian, known for her numerous appearances on television shows including Canadian Idol, Saturday Night Live, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Matters, Scrubs, and American Gladiators. Meghan first gained notice as a stand up comic in her early years at University of Toronto, where she honed her skills as a writer and performer. Since then Meghan has appeared in numerous movies, including the hit series Mom, and has recently been nominated for an Order of Canada for her work as a stand up comedian. Meghan’s natural good looks have led to many speculations that her physical height could be her greatest asset and one of the contributing reasons why she has been cast as such a wide variety of characters in such varied venues as stage and screen.

Meghan is listed in the American Factbook neither as male nor female, but as “the tallest woman in Canada” which leads some to speculate that Meghan may well be of English or Native American descent. This would make sense as the majority of Canadian indigenous peoples are listed as short in relation to other races. Meghan does not display signs of having inherited her parents short stature, and it seems more likely that her parents were of average height. Meghan’s father was 6′ 2″ and her mother was listed as five feet ten inches.

Meghan has said in the past that she feels that being of Indian descent helps her overcome the perceptions of being short by standing up straight and being confident in her appearance. She is clearly aware of the media images that are sometimes created about her by people who do not know her. She jokes that she now gets a couple of looks when she walks into a room, and that it usually ends with a “Oh, you’re Meghan!” However, Meghan does not worry too much about the reaction of people as she knows she looks good on the big screen. Meghan is happy just being a funny and charming character on stage and continues to work hard at being happy and positive while pursuing a career in the acting profession.
