Francisca Laia, a famous Costa Rican writer and poet, is considered by many to be one of the best female authors in the world. Her works are deeply rooted in her native Portugal and as such, are imbued with a flavor of the exotic and her devotion to her country. Born in Setubata, Brazil she is described as being extremely humble and her love for her family and country is undisputed.

It was this love of Portugal which led Francisca Laia to develop an all encompassing writing career that would encompass not only novels but also plays, poems and even journalism. As a young woman growing up in Brazil she found herself immersed in the culture of her home country, which led her to hone her skills as an illustrator and writer. But it was her time spent as a professional clay pigeon shooter in the British Armed Forces in Burma which would cement her international career as a novelist. The pigeon shooting competition at the Targus studio where she worked saw Laia takes on some of her best-known characters including a blind mystic and a vampire. She received numerous awards for these pieces and her work was later sold around the globe, which led to her winning the Prix de la Novel in Barcelona in 2005 which was later shared with Spain’s Miguel Aleman.

When it comes to writing a novel or even a piece of journalism, this author has a penchant for capturing the soul of those who love and admire her work through her descriptive writing style which blends historical fact and creative imagination. The works of Francisca Laia have managed to both stand the test of time and garner critical acclaim in countries all over the world. Her romantic persona and her beauty which can only be described as “a picture” have made her a very popular choice as a partner for writers.
