Height and Nationality

One of the most romantic movies I have ever seen was Angelica Botero’s Oscar award winning play, La Dolce Vita. In the play, Angelica Botero plays an aging, yet beautiful, Veneto schoolteacher who falls in love with a student named Piero. In keeping with the Vitalean way of thinking about nationalities, Angelica and Piero are Vitaleans. The play reveals that their nationalities have nothing to do with why they spend their lives together but rather, that it is love that causes them to stay together.

But what does nationality have to do with height and ethnicity? Age certainly has nothing to do with it. Angelica is an immigrant from Austria. While her partner is an Italian, both her nationalities are just about equal to the standard set of proportions used to determine the ideal height for an Italian man or woman: average height is six inches for men and five inches for women.

When I watched Angelica Botero’s play, I realized something very important. That is, while Angelica is a centimeter or two shy of being listed as being obese, she is still an attractive weight for her age and height. So, maybe even if Angelica’s birth country was not Italian, there is no reason for her to look as she does in the play. It was interesting to me that her weight was not held against her by her nationality or ethnicity but by the attractiveness of her face. Angelica has been compared to several Hollywood beauties before her and has been scorned for her weight.
