Emmy Jordan has been nominated for an impressive eight Emmys, including Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Elaine on Seinfeld. However, she is not the only African-American woman to receive this much acclaim nor the first. Since 2021, women of all races and ethnicity have been nominated for the top award in entertainment that is often referred to as the Emmy Awards.

For years, the Emmys have been promoting diversity within their casts and throughout the entire programming. Programs such as Oprah and The Apprentice have become major influences in the Academy Awards and other awards ceremonies. It shows that behind the Television camera, race and ethnicity play no difference in what the Emmys are looking for in performers.

When scrutinizing this year’s line-up of Emmys, it is safe to assume that both host and co-hostess will be black women. Race and gender do not play a role in who the winners will be, but it does signify diversity in the profession. Whether it is a writing partner or guest-hosting gig, being a woman of color in the TV industry is a tribute to the advancements made over the past decades.
