Does Height Matter in Acting?

Age and nationality are very close to each other in the world of acting, since many actors, actresses who act or are famous for their roles, are of nationalities – Italian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Brazilian, Polish, Dominican, Russian and so on. Age and nationality were present always as a part of the process of selecting an actor, actress or a singer to play the role of some popular personality. Since different age groups have different preferences, the selection of an actor or actresses of specific age and nationality was very often a tough process. This is because the selection was based on the availability of parts, and at the time, since these people were also considered as “undesirable elements” in society, these people were either put in jail or disappeared from the society.

For example, when Juliana Lossio became a famous name, or even an icon, she was often put in the head of the Mafia that was based in Hollywood. Her rise in popularity and recognition brought her a lot of challenges, and challenges she accepted with strength and courage. In later years, her career took her to various parts of the world and different cultures. For example, in the movie, “A Woman For Sale”, (1990) where she plays an Italian mistress of a rich Italian man, and she played the character of an Italian soprano, it was said that she had gained a lot of weight, due to overeating. She has gone on to play different characters, all of different ethnic background and different ages, but she still maintains her role as the soprano in the movies to this date.

Height and nationality do not stop overrated in the profession of acting, especially now that we have the great actresses like Halle Berry and Denholm Elliott who are bigger than life in their professions. We just need to be careful about how much our minds allow them to exaggerate the truth about their height. Height is not really an issue in acting – unless the character that you are playing is extremely short. Otherwise, you can always ask your actor friends for advice.
