The Age Gap That Could Have Been a Cure

The professional Lisa Eble, who played the lead role in National Lampoon’s Animal House would probably like to be seen in a similar role in a high-budget sequel to National Lampoon’s Animal House II. The story centers on Bluto Scrabble, played by John Candy, who is an insurance man whose career goes down the drain when he dates a Mexican housekeeper. In the second film, he teams up with Fabulous Ladyfish, played by Susan Sarandon, who ends up getting herself kidnapped by Scrabble; the game takes an odd turn when Fabulous Ladyfish ends up dying and turning into a vampire.

Since marrying into a profession is becoming somewhat common, it might be easy for married couples to mix their professions up and have some fun, which is why so many marriages fail in the first place. But as in the case of Marla Maples and Donald Trump, even if the couple are happily wed, there’s always a chance that the marriage itself isn’t strong enough for them to stand on their own. There’s nothing more depressing than watching a spouse slowly lose interest in the relationship; it’s a strain on a relationship that no one can foresee. Even if the wife has started to take some time off from work, a bored husband can still find a way to spend his time with his mistress. Marla and Donald had a stable marriage, but what made them stick together was their shared profession; now it’s obvious that something had to give.

Regardless of how long a marriage takes to break up, or how many years it takes for a couple to get along, it can’t be denied that one of the most crucial ingredients in a relationship is a clear age gap between the partners. It might be unrealistic to think that a thirty-year-old woman would want to date a twenty-year-old man, but in general, the idea holds true. Marla’s age difference might have been responsible for her not being able to open up to Bluto, but it also might have saved their marriage. It all depends on your perspective, and while it might be too soon to say that Lisa is a heartbreaker, at least she’ll be happy knowing that her situation is very common.
