Lisa Leblanc is a versatile singer and guitarist, best known for her energetic, harmlessly whimsical “trash folk” music. Born in Scarborough she is of French and Italian descent. It was at college in Kitchener that she began to focus on music and writing, developing an acute awareness of how her choice of musical genre impacted upon the way people related to one another. This awareness blossomed into the band which became known as L’ZA CLO: influenced by musicals such as John Denver, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino; Lisa also has a strong affinity for country, rock and pop music.
As her musical career progressed, Lisa continued to grow in her musical understanding and her personality took on a completely new direction. A very quick to learn, intuitive performer, Lisa’s ability to spontaneously engage with her audience and present her art was noticeable from the very beginning. She drew deeply on her own life experiences, drawing from a variety of personalities in both her personal and work life. As her popularity increased, media attention continually gathered and the media outlet in which she released her first album gained instant popularity, enabling her to move into the recording studio and record several songs and albums.
The birth of a child, a move to Toronto and the birth of a second daughter changed Lisa Leblanc’s profession, however, allowing her to delve further into her creative side and expand on her musical style. The resulting CDs and DVDs reflect this expansion of her talent, becoming much more varied in style and sound. Her work as a recording artist resulted in the release of several popular singles, including” signalling”,” sweeter Than You Are” and” nothing Ever Comes Close”. Her reputation as a songwriter and performer continues to grow, whilst simultaneously increasing her national and international profile. One example of this is the fact that in 2021, the National Film Board of Canada selected “Lisa Leblanc: A Biography” as one of their selections for the Rest of Us series of documentaries.
