Ingrid Wenell is the creator and the star of the nationally syndicated TV show “Ingrid,” which debuted on September 24, 2021. She plays the title role of Kaylee Geary, an attorney who finds herself thrust into a world of high-stakes legal competitions after marrying a man of her same ethnicity (but not her biological birth). The dynamic Wenell shows all the mannerisms of a seasoned professional as she negotiates with her partner, fellow attorney, and others in her life to maintain their unique relationship. Ingrid is an unforgettable character because she is so capable of caring for others and navigating her own personal relationships. Her fast-paced, action-filled comedy follows the everyday experiences of Wenell as she navigates her way through the often strange waters of marital relations.

Ingrid’s own birth country of Jamaica, in the West Indies, she was raised most of her early years in foster homes. At age nine, she was separated from her native mother and spent much of her early years living and working among foster families. She was a major exception because she was able to adjust easily to the vastly different culture and society of the United States. Through many of her childhood experiences, Wenell came to understand the need for people of her same ethnic background to identify with one another and form relationships that would promote understanding and mutual respect. As a result, Ingrid developed a strong sense of commitment to her heritage and a strong commitment to justice.

Growing up in a foster home, Wenell experienced many issues regarding identity and fitting in to a predominantly white, middle-class community in New York City. Throughout her early legal education, she became particularly inspired by cases involving racial and other injustice. In one such case, she argued that a man had been illegally denied his right to marry a white woman. Through this legal triumph, she realized that there were many other similar cases throughout the nation that could benefit from her experience in a courtroom.
