90s Fashion Trends On Tumblr

With the current trend of teens turning to Tumblr for their fashion inspirations, it’s time to take a look at the 90s fashion trends that permeated our culture at that time. I’ve put together a small gallery of pictures and a brief description of each design, so you can see for yourself what I’m talking about. The topics of these designs span a broad spectrum; from the early days of hip hop to the grunge look of the eighties to the skin-tight leggings and bikinis of today.

One of the first trends to hit the 90s was a very obvious one; low-cut pants. These low-rise pants are so popular with today’s generation that it’s hard to imagine anyone wearing them before they hit the scene. Another example of this trend is the popularity of the miniskirt. Mini skirts first made their debut in the eighties, but they became even more popular with the nineties. The mini skirt remained popular throughout the decade and actually gained popularity in the United States after Bill Clinton gave women the right to wear one at work. They’re currently one of the most common clothing choices for pregnant women.

The edgier trend of the decade also included denim and other fabrics, which were originally favored only by men. The cool, funky, distressed look was first seen on the scene in the early part of the decade and has remained evergreen since. This style was again popularized by the rise of the grunge era and continues to be a staple in many of today’s top fashion trends. As with most fashions, there were some criticisms at the time; some people wondered if the styles were too extreme for the taste of the younger generation. However, it seems that as the years pass, the trend for the decade will only continue to grow.
